Over 80 publications confirm effectiveness and patient benefits with Safetac®

Safetac® technology has been tested, perfected and proven in clinical situations worldwide since 1990. In the last decade alone, the technology has seen 15 improvements. More than 80 international studies and surveys confirm that Safetac causes less pain and trauma during dressing changes, leading to patient benefits and increased effectiveness.

The proof to back it up

In an international comparative study, 93% of patients wished to continue using dressings with Safetac technology.

Patients prefer dressings with Safetac technology because they are less painful during dressing removal. The peer reviewed publications involving products with Safetac technology include 52 case studies, 5 laboratory studies, 10 randomised controlled trials and 18 other clinical trials.

Safetac means less skin-stripping

A study of skin-stripping during dressing removal, coordinated at the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff claims:

“The Mepiform Safetac sites had a higher level of dye than those on which the other dressings had been applied. Based on the assumption that the more dye is left on the skin, the less damage is caused, this suggests that Mepiform Safetac is less damaging to the skin surface than the other products tested.”

Best practice to minimise trauma

Pain is common when dressings dry out or stick to the wound. Dressings with Safetac technology avoid these forms of trauma. A study from the Department of Tissue Viability, Grampian NHS Trust, Aberdeen states:

“A clinical best practice statement on minimising trauma and pain in wound management supports the use of soft silicone dressings incorporating Safetac technology.”

No maceration

Traditional adhesives fail to form a complete seal around the wound, which could lead to exudate spread. Safetac technology gently seals the wound margins, effectively minimising the risk of maceration.
