Holistic approaches to wound care: Dressed for success

By: Phil Davies B.Sc. (Hons), May 7 2015Posted in: The Mölnlycke Health Care blog

In recent interviews with wound care nurses in several hospitals in Germany, we learned that traditional wound care approaches consider the wound as it is when the patient visits the clinic.

More modern approaches are holistic and take lifestyle factors, contributory healthcare factors and primary diseases into account before and during the treatment of wounds. Apart from providing better care and achieving better outcomes, this kind of “big picture” review and patient communication is key to building a patient-care rapport (which is crucial in treating chronic wounds) and to using appropriate treatment options to reduce the need to use of more extreme treatments.

Watch Nurse Annika Brönner from Germany, who shared her thinking on holistic patient and wound treatment. Getting to the core cause of a wound is essential to treating it properly, making communication key.
