A preservative-free zinc paste bandage is highly desirable if sensitisation has been a problem.
Steripaste was evaluated in a skin patch study involving 68 leg ulcer patients: 50% of them reacted to allergens NOT present in Steripaste, but when tested with Steripaste (3), only one “doubtful” reaction was recorded.
Steripaste can therefore be recommended in patients with chronic leg ulcers, particularly those who have reacted to preservatives in the past (3).
Bandage fibre shedding can provide foci for irritation and infection; independent tests showed that Steripaste sheds far fewer fibres than other zinc paste bandages (1).
Smooth, creamy Steripaste is extremely easy to apply and remove. Its soothing 15% zinc oxide formulation provided “almost instant relief” (4) to a patient who was treated unsuccessfully with other emollients.
Benefits of Use
- Tests prove that Steripaste outperforms the competition for minimal fibre shedding (1)
- No preservatives to cause sensitisation or problems with patient compliance
- A smooth, creamy protective barrier for fragile skin when compression bandages are being used
- Significantly reduced healing times. When Steripaste bandages were tested against non zinc-containing equivalents, patients healed in an average of 9.2 weeks, against a 13.3 week mean for the control (2)
