Join our exciting symposium titled The impact of evidence on clinical practice: Protecting your patients from pressure ulceration
Thursday 28 August 2014, 08:30-09:30
Main auditorium, right half
A continental breakfast will be available from 08:00.
Join us and start the day by hearing about some ground-breaking research. The focus will be on preventing heel pressure ulcers and the cost effectiveness of prevention strategies.
Professor Amit Gefen has developed state-of-the-art computational modeling and will present findings of a study to determine the efficacy of a heel dressing in protecting the soft tissues of the posterior heel from pressure ulcers (PUs) in supine postures.
Professor Nick Santamaria will present the findings of a clinical study which assessed the clinical effectiveness of multilayer soft silicone dressings in preventing PUs in critically ill patients. He will also review evidence that shows that PU prevention is more cost effective than PU treatment.
Dr Peggy Kalowes will present the findings of a clinical investigation that evaluated effectiveness of a multi-layered soft silicone, self-adherent bordered foam dressing in preventing sacral pressure ulcers, compared to standard preventive interventions. She will discuss how the study results were used to change clinical practice and reveal the impact that the innovative use of prophylactic dressings in helping to prevent PU has had one year after implementation.
Dr Joyce Black will chair the symposium. Dr Black will also discuss the importance of using guidelines and the findings of clinical research to shape clinical practice in order to improve patient care.
We look forward to seeing you in Stockholm!
