Wound care

EWMA 2015 in London

By: Mölnlycke Health Care, May 20 2015Posted in: Wound care

The annual European Wound Management Association (EWMA) event gives Mölnlycke Health Care the opportunity to share knowledge and meet with practitioners and clinicians who specialize in and care deeply about wound care. This year was no exception.

EWMA is a significant wound care event, and this year included 4,170 participants. Seventy-seven countries were represented. Our own participation focused on launching our two new, advanced wound products, Mepilex® XT, an innovative wound dressing for superior exudate management incorporating Safetac® adhesive technology and Exufiber®, a gelling fibre dressing, using Hydrolock®  technology.

We also focused on pressure ulcer prevention through new evidence and guidelines as well as managing wounds with highly viscous exudate, the topics of our symposia.

In our booth

Both products came to life in the booth as our scientists hosted open lab sessions over the three event days and explained the significance and use of each product and discussed the issues they address, such as managing highly viscous exudate.
Also at our booth we featured wellness-related activities, including a spinning bicycle, which encouraged EWMA delegates to "spin for DEBRA" (external link, opens in a new window) charity, which is a research association for children with epidermolysis bullosa (EB). For every kilometre a cycled, Mölnlycke Health Care agreed to donate EUR 5. The final tally was 450 kilometres, which is the equivalent of cycling from London to Paris. Our longest cycle was completed by two Royal Armed Forces (RAF) officers who together cycled 30 kilometres for DEBRA. The total amount raised was EUR 2,250.

The booth also hosted a popular organic juice bar with nutritious snacks along with a relaxation area for delegates to recharge – both figuratively and literally (we offered charging stations for mobile devices).

Our symposia

We presented two symposia during the event. Our Pressure ulcer prevention pathway: A focus on heels symposium was attended by 257 people. Following the symposium, enthusiasm at the booth hit a high, and customers were even quoting figures from the presentation by Professor Nick Santamaria. Dr Joyce Black also presented new guidelines on implementing pressure ulcer prevention strategies in practice, which also piqued attendees' interest.

The second symposium, Changing the way we look at viscous exudate, had 285 attendees. Highly viscous exudate can be a challenge in wound care, and our symposium focused on management tactics. Our Mepilex XT product, launched and demonstrated in our booth, is one such management solution.

We enjoyed meeting everyone who visited our booth and shared their care and hope our symposia on exudate management and pressure ulcer prevention provided attendees with new information and evidence.

Looking toward the future, we hope to see you at EWMA again in 2016.
