What is Mepore Pro?
Mepore Pro is an absorbent shower-proof adhesive dressing. The Mepore Pro wound pad is an absorbent pad made from viscose with a wound-contact layer that has low adherence to the wound. The vapor permeable film provides a moisture-proof barrier that protects from fluid strike through and outer contamination. Mepore Pro conforms well to body contours. The water-based acrylic adhesive is skin-friendly and free from organic solvents. The adhesive area is covered with release paper designed to provide for aseptic application.
When is Mepore Pro indicated?
Mepore Pro is intended for use on low to moderately exuding wounds, such as surgical wounds, cuts and abrasions.
Is Mepore Pro moisture-proof?
The backing film on Mepore Pro has been proven moisture-proof as long as undamaged. However if there are creases between the dressing and the skin, there might be a risk for soaking the wound pad when taking a shower, leading to a need for dressing change.
In order to achieve optimal adhesion to the skin it is important not to stretch the dressing at application. Firmly smooth the adhesive border onto the skin to obtain proper adhesion.
Can Mepore Pro be cut?
If the product is cut or exposed to other damage we cannot guarantee the product performance. Cutting is therefore not recommended.
Why should I choose Mepore Pro instead of a film pad dressing?
Mepore Pro is easier to apply especially for those who are accustomed to surgical dressings like Mepore.
Does Mepore Pro adhere to the wound?
The absorbent pad of Mepore Pro has a wound-contact layer, which is designed to give minimum adherence to the wound.
Are there any allergy problems?
The type of adhesive used in Mepore Pro has shown to cause very few allergic reactions.
What are the main indications of Mepore Pro?
Mepore Pro is primarily intended as a dressing for surgical wounds, but it can be used for all wounds with low to medium exudate levels.
Should Mepore Pro be used on infected wounds?
The wound should be inspected for signs of infection according to clinical practice. In case of clinical signs of infection, (pain, redness, swelling, unusual odor or discharge), continued use of Mepore Pro should be determined by a health care professional.

What sterilization method is used? Can it be re-sterilized?
Mepore Pro is sterilized with ethylene oxide. It is validated for re-sterilization in ethylene oxide.
Does Mepore Pro contain any pharmaceutical component?
No.
What type of adhesive is used in Mepore Pro?
Mepore Pro’s adhesive is a water-based polyacrylate.
Is it possible that the adhesion level varies per batch?
Yes. There is always a chance of small variation in the adhesive raw material, which might cause minor variations between batches. All products released to the market are according to our specifications.
How do you handle the package and used product waste?
Product and package could be incinerated without forming any hazardous effluents. The shelf container and transport box can be recycled.
Does Mepore Pro contain PVC?
No, Mepore Pro does not contain PVC (neither the product, the release liner nor the packaging material).
Of what material is the packaging made?
The outer packaging system, including transport and dispenser box, is made from a corrugated board carton to withstand heavy loads during transport and storing.
How robust is the transport container?
The transport container is made of corrugated board. It is designed to withstand expected stress during transportation.

Is it possible to use Mepore Pro on exuding wounds?
Yes for low to medium exudate, but if a wound is exuding heavily it is better to use an absorbent dressing like Mepilex or Mepilex Border.
Is Mepore Pro elastic and/or extensible and follow the patient’s movement?
Mepore Pro is elastic and slightly extensible; it is soft and will follow the patient’s movements. It is however important not to stretch the dressing during application, as this might damage the skin and potentially cause skin blisters.
Can Mepore Pro be applied on wet skin?
No, the skin surrounding the wound has to be dry to allow the adhesive border to adhere properly.
Does Mepore Pro leave adhesive residuals on the patient’s skin after removal?
Adhesive residuals are rarely seen after removal.
Can Mepore Pro easily be removed?
As the adhesion level is designed to adhere gently to the skin, Mepore Pro is usually easy to remove.
Will removal of Mepore Pro cause any pain?
Since the pain experienced when removing a dressing is very individual it is only possible to give a general answer. Under normal conditions the removal would not be very painful but if the dressing adheres to the wound, or if it adheres to the skin (e.g. sensitive or very dry or damaged skin), or if it is applied to hairy parts of the body, there might be some pain.
Do you need to use any special products (such as antiseptics, ether) before or/and after using Mepore Pro?
No. But antiseptic pre-cleansing can be used provided the skin is thoroughly dried before the application of Mepore Pro.
How long can Mepore Pro remain on the patient’s skin? How often should Mepore Pro be changed?
It depends on the wound, the exudate level, and the condition of the patient’s skin. Usually Mepore Pro could be left on the patient for several days, but the change rate should be determined by the clinician.
When is Mepore Pro contraindicated?
We have a lot of experience from many years of using these types of products and also related raw materials on a variety of wounds and indications. The level of complaints registered for this product is very low. No contraindications have been discovered.
Are there any precautions to consider when using Mepore Pro?
Mepore Pro should not be applied on patients who are sensitive to acrylic adhesive.
Care should be taken to minimize skin tension that could cause mechanical damage to the skin by:
- ensuring that Mepore Pro is not applied under tension and
- being careful when applying over joints to apply in such a way that it does not impair the flexibility of the joints.
After some surgical interventions excessive swelling may occur. In such case it may be preferable to use a more flexible dressing, such as Mepore Film polyurethane film, in order to minimize skin tension.
Are there any wounds where Mepore Pro should be avoided?
Mepore Pro should not be used for heavily exuding wounds.
How is secure adhesion to the skin obtained?
The adhesion level is optimized if applied on a dry clean skin surface. Position the Mepore Pro over the wound without stretching. Firmly smooth the adhesive border onto the skin to obtain proper adhesion.
Is the backing film moisture-proof and bacteria proof?
The backing film has passed tests for both moisture proof and bacterial penetration.
Is the backing film viral-proof?
The backing film of Mepore Pro has passed the viral barrier test ASTM 1671F viral penetration.
