Trays create a procedural revolution in Italy

Watch: Umberto Parini hospital reports more efficient teamwork and cost reduction
Medical research leader Umberto Parini Regional Hospital has relied on Mölnlycke® products since 2014, enabling a procedural revolution for surgical teams and an economic turnaround for the administration. In 2017, they ran a trial of the Mölnlycke Procedure tray for laparoscopic cholecystectomy to evaluate the economic benefits of implementing this new surgical approach.
Dr. Paolo Millo, Head of the Surgery facility, explains how the success of the trial has led to the expanded use of the procedure sets. ‘The Mölnlycke Procedure trays we currently use in our units were designed for laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Given the excellent results and the overall positive feedback, we decided to extend the use of this set to other types of operations, and we have now developed kits dedicated to bariatric surgery,’ he says. ‘The introduction of the Mölnlycke Procedure trays has made operating theatre activities more fluid and helped to create a better working environment on every level.’

Seeking cost efficiencies and optimisation of both material inventory and OR use, customised Mölnlycke® ProcedurePak® trays contribute to time savings, simplified ordering and inventory processes, and the possibility for increasing the number of surgical procedures – all providing cost control per intervention.

Thanks to Mölnlycke® ProcedurePak® trays, the hospital has seen a reduction in internal order and delivery time, optimised stock management, and a simplified OR supply chain, which generates time savings of 15 to 20 minutes per surgical intervention, allowing for increased OR utilisation. Time savings equals improved OR capacity, opening the door for a greater number of procedures and surgical care for more patients. This also reduces costs thanks to improved productivity.

All with the underlying goal of achieving staff and OR efficiency to make more time to focus on patient care.

For Al Wakra Hospital, the ProcedurePak® Value Report outcomes exceeded expectations of the end users (OT nurses) and aligned with expectations for patient safety.
