Why is compression important?

Compression is a crucial part of healing and works best when worn daily. It’s normal to feel some discomfort at first, but this should improve as you get used to wearing compression bandages. If you have any concerns, talk to your nurse or doctor who can help with concerns with comfort. Once you see the difference it makes, you’ll truly appreciate the benefits of compression.

Stick with it – it’s worth it!

Compression is the most effective treatment for venous leg ulcers. It helps your veins work properly by applying gentle pressure to your lower legs, improving blood flow and reducing swelling. This not only speeds up wound healing but also helps prevent new ulcers from forming.

There are different types of compression, including:

  • Compression bandages
  • Wraps
  • Hosiery/stockings

Please consult your healthcare professional for advice on whether compression is right for you. Your healthcare professional will then advise what type of compression is right for you.
