Mepilex Heel

Mepilex is a highly conformable dressing that absorbs exudates, maintains a moist wound environment and accelerates wound healing. By maintaining a moist wound environment and supporting debridement, Mepilex may cause the wound area to temporarily enlarge during the initial treatment phase. This is a normal and expected response. Mepilex can be cut to suit various wound shapes and locations. Mepilex can be used in combination with bandages for compression therapy. Mepilex can be used in combination with gels. Mepilex® is made from polyurethane and silicone, which consists of: 1. a soft silicone wound contact layer (Safetac); 2. a absorbent pad of polyurethane foam; 3. an outer polyurethane film which is breathable but waterproof. Safetac® technology Safetac® is a soft silicone adhesive technology. It minimises pain to patients and trauma to wounds at dressing removal. Safetac® reduces pain by: 1. Adhering gently to dry surfaces such as intact skin, while avoiding adherence to moist wound surfaces, like open wounds; 2. Conforming well to a larger area of skin surface, including pores and folds, thereby preventing denudation of epithelial cells at dressing removal; 3. Sealing the wound edges to prevent leakage of the exudate onto the surrounding skin, thereby minimizing the risk for maceration.
