The Art and Science of Wound Care- Fundamentals of Wound Management

The New Art and Science of Wound Care program is a comprehensive, educational program designed to expand the wound management knowledge of clinicians in various health care delivery settings. The program purpose is to assist health providers in gaining confidence and competence in assessing and managing a variety of wound types. This is achieved by examination of best practice, through interactive discussion and review of clinical case studies and by hands-on exploration of wound dressings and their functions in promoting positive wound outcomes. This engaging program focuses on both the art and the science of effective, client centered, wound management.

Wound Management

This session will consist of the following clinical topics:


•Wound assessment and management including the concepts of wound goal setting, wound hygiene and biofilm/infectionmanagement.
•Exploration of a variety of wound types through clinical case exploration.
•Dressing category overview and wound dressing selection with interactive discussion and hands-on dressing lab

Speaker: Michele Labbie, RN, MN, NP

Michele is a Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about complex wound management in the context of chronic disease management particularly in people with lower leg ulcerations and diabetic foot complications. She has focused her expertise in this area for over 30 years and is actively involved in clinical research, consensus, pathway and practice guideline development and in implementation of evidence-based care. She provides wound and infection management education to health care professionals in numerous settings. Michele practices in an out-patient wound clinic and is involved in ambulatory infusion therapy and is a sessional instructor at MacEwan University in Edmonton
