Andrea Pokorná

A prevented pressure injury may be invisible, but the value of preventing it is immeasurable.
Andrea Pokorná Prof. Dr., PhD (EPUAP Immediate-Past President)
Who is Andrea Pokorná
For more than 20 years, Andrea has been dedicated to educating healthcare professionals on pressure injury prevention. As a long-standing contributor to international wound care collaboration through EPUAP and EWMA, she plays a vital role in elevating preventative practices on a global scale.
In her work as Full Professor of Nursing, Andrea helps translate evidence into practice - delivering practical, actionable insights through education, research, clinical recommendations, or clear guidance that patients and informal carers can easily understand and use. She firmly believes that real progress happens when education, research, and clinical care remain deeply connected.
For Andrea, being part of The Silent Hero Awards panel is an opportunity to highlight an aspect of healthcare that is critically important yet often under-recognised. By sharing the stories of heroes who protect their patients - often through small, consistent daily actions - she hopes the awards will spread good practice, motivate teams, and strengthen the professional value placed on preventative work.
