Webinar - Skin and nasal to decolonisation in infection prevention: where, when and how?

How can we translate evidence for nasal and skin decolonisation into consistent everyday practice?
Across wards, critical care units and operating theatres, teams must navigate practical delivery challenges, competing clinical priorities and questions about how best to implement current protocols.

We are delighted to be joined by Jon Otter, Consultant Clinical Scientist and Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, who will draw on his research and experience to explore these challenges.

Jon will examine the evidence supporting nasal and skin decolonisation, discuss barriers to reliable delivery and consider how emerging approaches could shape infection prevention across healthcare settings.

The webinar will:

  • Explore the current evidence for nasal and skin decolonisation and its role within broader infection prevention strategies
  • Examine challenges in implementing protocols, including workflow, staff adherence and competing clinical priorities
  • Discuss how to translate evidence and recommendations into consistent everyday practice
  • Consider future directions in infection prevention, including emerging approaches and gaps in the evidence

Learning objectives:

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the evidence supporting nasal and skin decolonisation within broader infection prevention strategies
  • Identify practical barriers to implementing decolonisation protocols across healthcare settings
  • Recognise approaches that can support reliable delivery of infection prevention measures
  • Identify emerging approaches and evidence gaps that could influence future practice

Recommended attendees:

  • Infection prevention and control specialists
  • Nurses and practitioners across acute and community care
  • Critical care, perioperative and surgical teams
  • Microbiologists and antimicrobial stewardship teams
  • Clinical leaders and patient safety professionals
