How CWCS works for clinicians
Prescriber pathway

Assess and enrol eligible patients
Once accredited, you can identify eligible patients in your practice — those with diabetes, a hard-to-heal wound, and who meet the age threshold. Enrol them through the CWCS portal.

Products delivered directly to patients

Clinical FAQs
Common questions from prescribers
-
Do I need to complete training before I can prescribe through CWCS?
Yes. Clinicians must complete the government's online CWCS prescriber training before they can register patients or access funded products. The training is available at health.gov.au and covers eligibility criteria, product selection and ongoing wound review obligations.
-
What wound types are covered under the CWCS?
The CWCS covers hard-to-heal wounds in people with diabetes, primarily diabetic foot ulcers. The scheme also supports management of venous leg ulcers and pressure injuries where they occur in eligible patients. It does not cover acute post-surgical wounds.
-
Can allied health professionals (podiatrists, wound care nurses) prescribe?
Eligible prescribers include registered medical practitioners, nurse practitioners and certain allied health professionals including credentialled podiatrists. Eligibility rules are defined by the Department of Health and Aged Care. Check health.gov.au for the current list of recognised prescriber roles.
-
How are products delivered to patients?
Once a patient is enrolled and a product order is placed through the scheme, products are delivered directly to the patient's home by the approved supplier. This delivery and the costs of the products are at no cost to the patient or your clinic. This supports community-based wound care and removes the need for patients to attend for supplies.
-
How do I get a Mölnlycke sample pack to assess products before prescribing?
Complete the form above with your name, organisation, role and postal address. Our clinical team will verify your eligibility and send you a complimentary sample pack of our CWCS-listed products, along with a copy of our full CWCS catalogue.
