5 million and growing: scaling Granudacyn® production in Salzburg

Mölnlycke® has reached a significant milestone with the production of 5 million units of its Granudacyn® wound irrigation solution at its manufacturing site in Salzburg, Austria, reflecting strong and sustained global demand for advanced wound cleansing solutions.

The consistent growth we’ve seen for Granudacyn® enables us to take a long-term, targeted approach to expanding our manufacturing capacity,” said Kevin Sands, General Manager of the Salzburg site. “By optimising processes, investing in equipment and applying lean principles, we are increasing output while maintaining the highest standards of quality and reliability.

Mölnlycke acquired the Salzburg factory in October 2024 after more than five years of collaboration with its previous owners. Since then, it has been successfully integrated into Mölnlycke’s global manufacturing network of 16 sites in 11 countries, with investments in systems, operational excellence and cross-functional collaboration driving greater efficiency, scalability and growth.

Granudacyn® is a biocompatible, non-cytotoxic wound irrigation solution designed to safely cleanse, irrigate and moisten a wide range of acute, chronic and contaminated wounds. Using hypochlorous acid-based technology, it supports wound healing while ensuring microbial purity of the solution and ease of use. The product is suitable for a broad range of indications, including pressure injuries, leg and foot ulcers, burns (1st and 2nd degree) and surgical wounds.

Today, Granudacyn® is available in 54 markets worldwide, having expanded significantly beyond its European origins. Commercial momentum continues to build and, following FDA clearance, Granudacyn® is now being introduced in the United States, with further market expansion planned.

Granudacyn® plays an important role in opening up broader conversations around modern wound care and our wider portfolio,” said Giuseppe Conti, Global Product Manager for Granudacyn®. “Its flexibility across multiple wound types, combined with strong clinical confidence, has driven adoption across a growing number of markets.

With production continuing to scale, Mölnlycke remains committed to supporting healthcare professionals worldwide with reliable access to high-quality wound care solutions that reduce the burden of wounds, improve patient outcomes and enhance clinical efficiency.
