Who is Dot Weir?
Dot Weir lives in Michigan with her husband and their two dogs. She has been working as a nurse for 49 years, with 45 of them as specialized in ostomy and wound care. She has practiced in acute care, home care, and long-term care, spent seven years in industry, and has practiced in outpatient care since 2001. Now she works part-time in a Wound and Ostomy Clinic and is involved in the International Wound Infection Institute as Secretary.
Dot’s mother used to say that she talked about being a nurse as a very little girl, as her grandfather had asthma and she wanted to take care of him. She followed her mission and found that she has a special gift in teaching practical wound care to other nurses.
Dot points out that the science in wound care has evolved tremendously since the 80’s, but there are still challenges to face. The Silent Hero Award can play an important role to educate and inspire others.
