The clinical nurse specialists in St James’s Hospital Tissue Viability Team are deeply honored by both the nomination and being named winners of the Silent Hero Awards. They emphasise that pressure injury prevention and wound management are team efforts, and that this recognition reflects the collective commitment of all staff who strive to deliver safe, compassionate, evidence-based care every day.

The Tissue Viability team provides education, implements preventative strategies, and ensures that all staff are confident in early identification and intervention. Most pressure injuries are preventable with the right knowledge, equipment, and proactive care and the team knows that their work helps protect patients from avoidable harm.

Since the overall purpose of the Award is to highlight people that are doing important work in preventing pressure injuries, The Tissue Viability Team wants to shine the light right back on the frontline staff – the ones who provide daily hands-on care and make a real difference for patients.
